It’s been 43 days since I’ve talked about pirates, which is far too long. I’m certainly not the first to note the hilarious audacity of The Pirate Bay, as their responses to legal threats are certifiable entertainment, but reading the reactions on Digg (whose “news” is fast resembling email forwards of the late 90s) I decided in was time for a lesson in ethical development.

The truth is profoundly shiftier.

“Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” comes out today. While some friends of mine attend the SF premiere in full pirate regalia, you can probably already buy the DVD on the streets if you know the right people. The Pirate Archetype is so celebrated throughout American culture that it seems obvious to me the RIAA and MPAA have no hope of stopping the plunder.
